Improve’s Executive Management Team is responsible for implementing the company’s strategy and the day-to-day running of its activities.
Exec Team -
Jack Matthews - Chief Executive Officer
Before joining Improve, Jack worked for the Sector Skills Development Agency (SSDA) as Director of Operations. As part of his role at the SSDA, Jack had overall responsibility for the development of the UK-wide network of Sector Skills Councils.
Jack’s previous experience includes many years in the energy industry with Scottish Hydroelectric PLC and Scottish and Southern Energy PLC. He also has experience in the public sector working for the Scottish Executive as Head of the Scottish Prison Services College. Additionally, Jack is a member of the Education and Vocational Advisory Board of the British Council.
The Chief Executive has overall responsibility for delivery of the company’s strategy.
Jack is also a member of the Board of Improve Ltd.
Stephen Chambers - Finance Director
Stephen joined Improve as Finance Director in September 2004. Prior to this he was Head of Financial Consultancy at the Sector Skills Development Agency, where his responsibilities included the process of licensing of Sector Skills Councils, related contracting matters and support to developing Sector Skills Councils on areas such as governance structures and financial planning.
Previous experience includes Grant Thornton and secondment to the DTI. The Finance Director is responsible for all financial and support service aspects of the company and compliance with its corporate governance, including performance reporting and contract management.
Stephen is also a member of the Board of Improve Ltd.
Derek Williams - Development Director
Derek joined Improve in 2004, bringing with him nearly 30 years experience of the food and drink industry. Derek was previously Chief Officer of the Bakery Training Council.
As Development Director, Derek is responsible for the development and maintenance of adequate and effective National Occupational Standards, the maintenance of a relevant qualifications framework, and developing innovations in skill recognition, e.g. Apprenticeships.
