The Improve Skills Academy

The Government’s Skills White Paper released in April 2005, outlined the strategic direction for skills and workforce development for the next five years. The paper places the development of Skills Academies as a key function for Sector Skills Councils.

In October 2005, Improve was awarded one of the first four Skills Academies. This Academy wil be the prestigious UK-wide centre of learning for all people in the food and drink industry. This academy is now in the second stages of development.

What is the Improve Green Card?

The Green Card also plays an important part in the Academy. The Improve Green Card is a verifiable record of all qualifications and achievements, especially those in the UK Food and Drink Industry. The Green Card consists of two parts: a Passport of Skills and a Record of Achievement. The Passport of Skills is a nationally recognised, entry level standard for the food and drink manufacturing sector.

Our intention is to create a Passport of Skills for every individual who undertakes training accredited by The Academy, containing core modules such as food hygiene and food safety.

This will prove to employers that an individual has the necessary skills to work in food and drink manufacturing and ultimately make the individual more employable. All the qualifications held by the individual from the Academy and Passport will be stored in a Record of Achievement which will be accessible online, through this website.
