Funding
Improve is a Sector Skills Council licensed from 1 June 2004 by the Secretary of State for Education and Skills as the recognised authority on skills development in the UK food and drink industry.
Improve’s first three years will be funded through a variety of means including Government grants totalling £4.0m over the three year period. It is intended that during the first three years, Improve becomes less reliant on Government grants. Improve is currently considering revenue generation through a small range of commercial products; by employers funding directly through membership of Improve; through the ‘pay as you go’ purchase of products and services and through trade associations.
The industry’s total contribution is estimated at £1.0m in the first three years. This means the Government will provide £4 for every £1 from the food and drinks industry. This represents a serious commitment to improving productivity and skills from the Government.
